Welcome to KBA

Your Child - Our Priority

Kellman Brown Academy is a Jewish Community Day School in Voorhees, New Jersey serving 3 months through 8th grade students in a warm and nurturing environment. Our students develop the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive skills, along with a positive Jewish identity, that are the foundation for future academic and social success.

Testimonials

Most of my friends in public school see school as academic and social. I feel as if KBA gives me so much more. I have great friends and our classes are challenging. I know that I am often learning things beyond my grade level. Our teachers want us to succeed and are always available to talk with us. The projects they give us are interesting and creative from writing parody songs about science to creating Ted talks. But the reason I feel I have gotten so much more is that as I have gotten older, I have come to appreciate how KBA expects us to be citizens of the world and to lead with Jewish values. They expect us to be role models for the younger students and we often do projects where we read to or do STEM projects with them. We go to Lions Gate to spend time with seniors and partner with a school in Camden each year to do a science project. We have been taught about our responsibility to take care of the earth and every grade does projects from planting trees to designing products for a better planet. In Judaism, we believe that every life has value and purpose and KBA has taught us that everyone’s skills and talents may be different but that each of us has something important to contribute. I feel as if I am learning the skills I need to succeed academically in high school but also the skills and values to be the best person I can be.

“After I took my first tour, met some of the incredible teachers, learned all about the curricula, spent tons of time talking with the school principal, and participated in some of the community-wide family events sponsored by KBA, I was swooning. I became convinced that this was not just a school where our kids could go; it was a place where our kids could fully connect and belong. KBA isn’t just a school; it is a community, it is an extended family, it is a home away from home for its students. It is a place where core Jewish values and concepts – chesed, tzedakah, kehillah, kavod, tikkun olam – guide and infuse every part of the programming. It is a place where learning is a joyful experience. It is a place where the older students read to the younger students. It is a setting in which students who learn differently or need extra support get differentiated learning or extra support, because the teachers are invested in not merely the success, but the true potential of each child. It is a place where the principal knows all the students’ names and welcomes each one personally every day. It is a place where exceptional educators pour an astonishing amount of their energy, time, creativity, and love into helping their students not merely to learn, but to grow. I know in my heart that a KBA education is the greatest gift we can be giving to our children at this stage of their young lives.” - Laura Handel Schwartz | Current KBA parent

“As a graduate of Kellman Academy, so many of my childhood memories and my sense of community stemmed from the experiences and friendships we created through Kellman. In fact, to this day, many of my former classmates are some of my closest friends (and parents of current students as well!). Those classmates that I graduated from 8th grade with will always hold a unique place in my heart as an extension of my family. The academics were, and continue to be exceptional at KBA and during my time there the foundation for learning how to learn was paved in a way that set me up for success in my future rigorous academics in high school, college, medical school, and beyond! However, despite the impressive academics, I believe that the core of KBA is the importance placed on the individual student and ensuring each child develops in a way that maximizes their unique strengths and abilities to make a positive impact in the world. As a student, I constantly felt celebrated for my accomplishments and nurtured through my challenges. The dedication of the faculty and administration to this mission is unsurpassed and as a result, to this day, I hold many of my teachers and principals from Kellman as some of my greatest influencers and role models.” - Ilana Jerud | Alumna

A close bond develops between teacher and student at Kellman Brown Academy, one that continues past graduation. How satisfying when a twenty, thirty, or forty-year-old former student calls to share memories of my class and talk about his/her achievements! Teaching at KBA for more than 30 years has given me the opportunity to make the subjects of history and American government a valuable part of the education of middle school students. I am able to introduce concepts and skills to sixth graders and then watch these students progress over the next two years. Kellman Brown Academy is a wonderful school in which students learn secular and Judaic subjects, and how to treat others with respect; for professionals, it is a place to teach the individual child in a warm, pleasant environment and to make them feel appreciated for all their hard work and effort.- Ellen Barmach | Current Teacher
